Scott Mescudi is easily one of the biggest influences on my life – but not as how you’d immediately think. Without a doubt any person that knows even a little about him would automatically relate him to weed, and it’s true. It’s not a bad thing at all, on the contrary some of his best pieces are either directly or subtly related to marijuana. But I digress. Cudders is the type of person I aspire to be. I don’t necessarily agree with all of his choices, but as stated in his song “Ghost!”, they’re what makes him who he is.
The people I’ve met and the places I’ve been, all will make me the man I so proudly am.
The reason I look up to and respect this man so much is because of his nature. It’s apparent in so many of his songs that he does what he does because he loves it. It’s his way of expressing his emotions. He, like many people, has some issues. Some minor and some major. The fact that he’s able to pull through from the shit in his life and continue to do what he loves is something to be admired. Sure, he makes it no secret that half of his ‘peace’ comes from marijuana, but unlike other ‘artists’ his music career isn’t about “fucking bitches getting money”.
Perhaps my favourite song (at the time of writing this) by Cudi is “The Prayer”. This song is like a rhetorical early death note he is writing to his fans. Perhaps my favourite line of this song is:
Blessing in disguise, but I am not hiding who I am open your eyes, bro
This relates to his life. His life, albeit shitty, was a blessing in disguise. If what had happened had not happened, Mescudi probably wouldn’t be where he is today. He’s saying that he is who is he presents himself – there’s no lie or misconception about his personality. The song itself is beautiful and really deep meaningful. If you’re ever in a contemplative mood take a listen:
